ESIA for Amman BRT Project Phase II

Development of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the expansion of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Amman, specifically Phase I and Phase II, to cover three new corridors with a total length of 42.6 km. The project involved supporting the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) in meeting the World Bank (WB) environmental and social requirements. Main activities included:

  • Development of the Resettlement Framework (RF) in accordance with World Bank standards.
  • Preparation of the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP) to ensure inclusive and transparent consultation.
  • Development of the ESIA, identifying and assessing potential environmental and social impacts and proposing mitigation measures.
  • Preparation of the Environmental and Social Commitment Plan (ESCP) to outline GAM’s responsibilities for implementing the agreed mitigation measures.
  • Integration of climate adaptation measures into the BRT infrastructure and fleet system design, enhancing resilience to climate-related risks.
