Identification of Flood Hotspots Locations in Amman
This project is part of the broader project titled “Smart Urban Water Management: Enhancing the Adaptive Capacity and Urban Resilience of Amman through Urban Green Infrastructure.” The objective of this phase is to identify and assess 118 hotspot locations across Amman city, ultimately selecting 10 final sites for implementing green infrastructure (GI) solutions.
The selection process involves a multi-phase approach that applies multicriteria selection methods, considering factors such as hydrological, socio-economic, suitability, and cost elements. Advanced modeling techniques are employed, including hydrologic and hydraulic assessments using HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS, to evaluate the runoff dynamics and flood risk at each location.
This phase of the project provides critical insights and data that will guide the design phase, the next step in implementing effective green infrastructure solutions. By focusing on a systematic and data-driven approach, this project aims to enhance Amman’s resilience to urban flooding and improve its capacity to adapt to climate change impacts.
