SSV and FAO Partner to Strengthen Climate Adaptation in Jordan
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has signed an agreement with SSV to implement a community-driven climate adaptation initiative across Madaba, Karak, Tafilah, and Ma’an. Signed on March 27, 2025, the project aims to enhance local resilience to climate change through training workshops, awareness campaigns, and partnerships with 15+ civil society organizations (CSOs).
The initiative will train over 500 participants—including farmers, women-led households, and municipal staff—on climate-smart agricultural practices and water efficiency strategies. It forms part of FAO’s $33.25 million Building Resilience to Climate Change in Jordan (BRCCJ) project, which focuses on improving water management in agriculture and scaling climate adaptation policies across institutions, civil society, and the private sector.
SSV will lead efforts to integrate localized solutions in Jordan’s Dead Sea Basin provinces, areas highly vulnerable to water scarcity and climate impacts. Activities include developing tailored adaptation plans, empowering women in agricultural leadership roles, and strengthening community engagement to ensure long-term sustainability.
